On Saturday, December 13, a fire broke out in an apartment covering an area of 50 square meters in a five-story residential building on Birautas Baumanes Avenue in Riga. Firefighters rescued two people from a neighboring apartment, who were handed over to medical personnel, while another 30 people were evacuated from the building before the arrival of the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPRS).
Also on Saturday, a fire ignited in an apartment in another five-story residential building on Pelnu Street. Firefighters rescued 14 people from the smoke-filled premises using rescue masks, while three others evacuated from the building on their own.
On Saturday, a chip and sawdust bunker covering an area of 30 square meters caught fire at a woodworking enterprise in the Kocenu parish of Valmiera municipality. The adjacent building was protected from the fire.
In total, the GPRS received 50 calls over the past 24 hours, of which 15 were for fire extinguishing, 24 for rescue operations, and 11 calls were false.
