Over 200 km/h: a lone BMW from Riga raced to a €1500 fine

In recent days, State Police officers in Riga and its surroundings caught a couple of speeders. One was driving at 205 km/h outside the city, while the other accelerated to 132 km/h in the city.

Yesterday, on November 25, around noon, police officers in the Ropaži municipality recorded a driver of a BMW car who, while traveling on the A2 road (Riga – Sigulda – Estonia border) towards Vangaži, exceeded the speed limit: in a section where the speed limit is 90 km/h, he was driving at a speed of 205 km/h, exceeding the permissible speed by more than 110 km/h.

The police stopped the offender, and he was held administratively responsible — a fine of €1500 was imposed, as well as a one-year suspension of his driving license.

Last week, on November 21, a driver of a Jaguar car was caught on Krasta Street in Riga, who grossly exceeded the speed limit in a populated area — while the limit was 50 km/h, he was driving at 132 km/h.

After being stopped, it turned out that he was driving without a driver's license. He was fined €1500 for speeding, and a 12-month ban on obtaining a driver's license was imposed. Additionally, a €400 fine was imposed for driving without a license.

On the same day, while monitoring traffic on the A9 road (Riga – Liepāja), police officers recorded a driver of a Volvo car who was driving at 123 km/h in a section where the speed limit was 70 km/h. He was also stopped and held administratively responsible.
