In Latgale, a driver of a car died after driving into a pond, the State Police reported.
A tragic incident occurred in the Grishkan parish of the Rezekne district when a passenger car "Opel Insignia", moving in reverse, went off the road, overturned, and fell into a pond. The police have initiated a criminal case, and the investigation is ongoing.
Another 14 people were injured as a result of the traffic accident. Nine people were injured in accidents in the Riga region, including two cyclists. Three more people were injured in Latgale, including one pedestrian. One person was injured in accidents in Zemgale and Vidzeme.
In the past 24 hours, 137 traffic accidents have been registered in Latvia.
The State Police also detained eight drivers of vehicles under the influence of alcohol. In four cases, criminal proceedings have been initiated, as the drivers were heavily intoxicated.
Due to exceeding the permitted speed limit, 157 administrative offense reports have been drawn up.
A total of 510 administrative offense decisions have been issued in the field of road traffic.
