Justice has yielded to the largest rodents on the planet.

What happened: In the elite neighborhood of Nordelta, north of Buenos Aires, capybaras have multiplied. They roam the streets, enter properties, and get hit by cars. Not all locals are pleased with this, and the administration developed a trap plan for the decapibarization of the territory.

In particular, it included forced chemical castration of capybaras and herding them into a special reservation ("corridor").

As for the first part, it is claimed that the vaccine lasts "only a year" - a typically Argentine temporary measure: "a year, and then, after the elections, we will see"?! The "fencing" of capybaras involved building electric fences, driving piles into the river floodplain, and more.

As a result, the court ruled to cancel everything. Castration - put on hold, construction - cease! It is said that the rights of capybaras are being violated and that all of this is inhumane.

The interests of the capybaras in court were represented by a real upright lawyer hired by an animal rights organization.

The Nordelta administration may appeal the verdict.

The capybara, or water pig, is a semi-aquatic herbivorous mammal from the subfamily Caviinae, one of the two currently existing species of the genus Hydrochoerus. The capybara is the largest among modern rodents. Weight: 35 – 66 kg (adult individual). Higher classification: Caviidae. Height: 50 – 62 cm (adult individual, at the shoulder).
