Noting that many people are dying on both sides in the war of Russia against Ukraine, the U.S. president expressed the opinion that things are going "quite well" for Zelensky.

U.S. President Donald Trump spoke highly of the actions of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the war between Russia and Ukraine. "At least he is holding up," said the American leader while speaking with reporters at the White House on Wednesday, June 24, during a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. "A lot of people are dying on both sides, but I think he is doing quite well."

This was Trump's response to a journalist's question about whether the U.S. president believes that "Zelensky is winning right now."

In the past, Trump has repeatedly criticized Zelensky, accusing him, among other things, of blocking efforts for a peaceful resolution of the conflict, as noted by AFP.

Trump criticized Germany and European countries

During the same press conference, Donald Trump stated that he is disappointed with Germany and other European countries due to their stance regarding the U.S. and Israel's war against Iran.

According to the U.S. president, Washington asked the German government to "give it at least a small kiss," but received a refusal. However, the head of the White House did not name the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Meanwhile, the U.S. is investing "hundreds of millions of dollars" in deploying its military contingent in Germany and other European countries, Trump lamented.

Trump: Russia should make peace

Earlier, the U.S. along with other members of the "G7" announced an increase in sanctions against Moscow. On the sidelines of the G7 summit, which took place from June 15 to 17 in France, Donald Trump met with leaders of other member countries, as well as with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

After this meeting, which, according to Trump, went "very well," the U.S. president expressed the opinion that Russia should make peace with Ukraine, adding that he would do "everything in his power" to achieve that. "The optimistic mood regarding the war in Ukraine, which has been ongoing for five years now, sharply contrasts with last year's meeting between Zelensky and Trump in the Oval Office, when he (Zelensky) was told that he had no leverage in potential peace negotiations with Russia," Reuters noted at that time.

On June 24, in his daily address to his fellow citizens, the Ukrainian president stated that if Kyiv receives the assistance discussed during the G7, he will be able to "quickly create conditions under which Russia will be forced to choose peace." Zelensky did not specify what exactly he meant.
