Attempt to Outpace China: Trump Ordered to Prepare the U.S. for the Post-Quantum Era.
The White House announced a new course for American technology policy — from the development of quantum computers to preparing infrastructure for the post-quantum era. For these purposes, Donald Trump signed two executive orders, RTVI US reports.
The first executive order is aimed at protection against cyber threats. Trump instructed federal agencies to accelerate the transition to cryptographic systems resistant to attacks from quantum computers. This involves replacing encryption methods that are at risk of becoming vulnerable soon.
The second executive order is dedicated to the development of quantum technologies that "have the potential to revolutionize industry, medicine, defense, and energy." The goal is to regain the leadership that the U.S. is gradually losing.
The executive orders come against the backdrop of increasing competition with China in this field. Beijing is currently ahead of the U.S. in certain areas — especially in quantum communication. About 10 years ago, China was the first in the world to deploy the largest secure quantum network between cities — approximately 2,000 km between Beijing and Shanghai.
