In the TV24 program "Globe," Saeima deputy (JV), member of the European Affairs Commission and former Prime Minister (2023–2026) Evika Silina notes that Latvia will advocate for the interests of its farmers at the European Union level, as negotiations for Ukraine's integration into the EU will be complex and will require compromises.

She emphasizes that the process of Ukraine's accession will not be quick and easy, as it will be necessary to balance both the interests of European countries and Ukraine's capabilities and its contribution to European security. Silina notes that substantial funding is allocated for Ukraine in the multiannual budget of Europe, but political discussions are still needed regarding its volume and conditions.

The politician points out that Ukraine is already expressing its readiness to make a significant contribution to European security and support member states, including Latvia, considering the threats posed by Russia. At the same time, she emphasizes that Ukraine's experience in the war is a significant resource for Europe, especially in the areas of security, defense, and digital development.

Silina also notes that Ukraine's integration into the EU may create challenges for competition, particularly in agriculture, so it will be necessary to balance the interests of existing member states and Ukraine. She stresses that Ukraine's accession will be a gradual process, rather than a one-time political decision with immediate full rights granted.
