The process of transferring the two settlements, which were previously part of Uzbekistan, has been officially completed: the villages of Chongara and Tash-Tobo have officially become the territory of Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the press secretary of the President of Kyrgyzstan, Askhat Alagozov.

Chongara (Chon-Gara) and Tash-Tobo were previously part of the Fergana region of the Republic of Uzbekistan. These settlements are compactly populated by ethnic Kyrgyz — according to official data, about 2,500 people.

The transfer of territories took place as part of the demarcation of the state border with Uzbekistan. Now, registration activities will begin in these villages, and all residents will receive Kyrgyz citizenship.

In response to the transfer of the two villages, the Kyrgyz side transferred to Uzbekistan equivalent land plots in the border zone, clarified Alagozov.

Additionally, under the same agreements, an exchange of equivalent land plots with a total area of 236 hectares occurred. This was done for the construction of a road.

The press secretary also reported that Kyrgyzstan proposed to Kazakhstan to exchange equivalent land plots along an 800-meter stretch of road in the area of the city of Tokmok (Chui region).
