The government's work is proposed to be focused on results, the well-being of people, and strengthening the future.

Mindaugas Sinkevicius (41), the chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), has decided to take responsibility and lead the government.

As reported by "European Truth," he announced this on his Facebook page.

The leader of the social democrats notes that he made this decision considering the expectations of the residents of Lithuania.

"I want to announce that I confirm my readiness to take responsibility for forming a new government and to assume the position of Prime Minister," he stated.

Sinkevicius also expressed his readiness to unite coalition partners for joint work, to strive for necessary changes, and to ensure that "the government’s work is results-oriented, focused on the well-being of people and strengthening the future of Lithuania."

"The growth of geopolitical tensions obliges us to strengthen the potential of national security and defense even faster, with particular attention to air defense. Lithuania's foreign policy must be active, consistent, and results-oriented," he emphasized.

Earlier, Lithuanian media reported that Sinkevicius decided to take the position of Prime Minister, replacing Ingrida Šimonytė.

It is worth noting that over the past weekend, the social democrats announced their decision to cease cooperation with the far-right "Star of Nemunas" and to begin negotiations with the Union of Democrats "For the Name of Lithuania." President Gitanas Nausėda welcomed this decision. The updated coalition will have 75 mandates in the Seimas.
