According to local publications, the attacker shot Skrepetzky multiple times from close range. Despite the quick arrival of medical personnel, he could not be saved. After the incident, law enforcement agencies closed off streets and exits from the city, as well as increased security measures in areas where relatives of the deceased might be located.

Particular attention is drawn to the identity of the deceased. Semyon Skrepetzky, whose real name is Robert Kuzovkov, left Russia in 2021 and moved to Poland, fearing political persecution.

Shortly before his death, the artist participated in a public event in Berlin, timed to coincide with Russia Day. During the event, one of his works depicting Stalin and Putin was used.
