Employees of the Estonian Tax and Customs Department detained several violators last week who were attempting to export prohibited goods from the country.

On June 11, a 22-year-old citizen of Estonia arrived at the Narva customs checkpoint for departure from the country, having crossed the border multiple times within the year. During customs control, officials discovered a diving oxygen tank in the traveler's suitcase. According to the man, he practices diving and did not find any prohibition on exporting such tanks while searching online. Since he had no previous violations, he was given a warning and then returned with the item back to Estonia.

On June 11, a 77-year-old man with dual citizenship of Ukraine and Russia also arrived at the Narva customs checkpoint for departure from the country, having crossed the border multiple times within the year. He stated that he had no goods to declare and denied having euro banknotes with him. During the inspection, 20 euros were found in the pocket of his shirt. When asked if he had any other European currency, the man presented a two-euro coin. However, in addition to Ukrainian hryvnias and Russian rubles, customs officials found 3,500 euros in cash. The money was located in a transparent bag in the sleeve pocket of his jacket. The man was fined 600 euros and then returned with the money to Estonia.

On June 14, the same Narva customs checkpoint saw the arrival of a 69-year-old female citizen of Russia, who also crossed the border multiple times within the year. Before the inspection, the woman stated that she had nothing to declare. She verbally reported only having 200,000 Russian rubles with her. However, during customs control, 4,450 euros in cash were found under the lining of her jacket. According to the woman, she forgot that she had euros with her. She was fined 400 euros and then returned with the money to Estonia.

On June 10, a 43-year-old citizen of China arrived at the Luhamaa customs checkpoint for departure from the country, crossing the border for the first time in a year. The man did not declare personal belongings but wanted to process a tax refund (Tax Free) for clothing purchased in Estonia. In particular, he wanted to receive a tax refund for a Gucci bag, a jacket, two pairs of shorts, a Louis Vuitton shirt, and a Lachat Giubbotto jacket. He was informed that due to the current sanctions, the export of luxury items to Russia is prohibited. The man was forced to return with the items to Estonia.
