At least three people died as a result of a ferry collision with a sailing yacht off the coast of Croatia. All the victims were on board the yacht, reports NOS.

According to the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, rescue services continue to search for another person who is considered missing. Eight people were rescued from the waters of the Adriatic Sea.

According to Croatian media, all those on the yacht were citizens of the Czech Republic. Four injured individuals were taken to the hospital. Doctors reported that their lives are not in danger.

A witness to the incident was a tourist from Belgium who was on board the ferry. In an interview with the Flemish news portal HLN, he said that he suddenly heard a loud bang from the right side of the vessel.

"We went to see what happened with other passengers. We only saw debris, and a little further away — people in the water," he said.

In the published footage, it can be seen that the two vessels collided while moving between the islands of Brač and Šolta in the central part of the Adriatic Sea.

There were 118 passengers and seven crew members on board the ferry. After the accident, the ferry company canceled all scheduled trips for that day between the island of Hvar and the city of Split.

The causes of the collision are still being investigated. Authorities continue the search operation and investigation into one of the most serious maritime accidents in Croatia in recent times.
