Iran will not sign a joint memorandum with the U.S. to begin the resolution of the war on June 14, the Foreign Ministry stated. According to Fars, the authorities are still considering the terms of the agreement and do not want it to be adopted on Trump's birthday.

Iran refused to sign a joint memorandum with the U.S. to begin the resolution of the war on Sunday, June 14, as previously suggested by American President Donald Trump, who turns 80 on that day. This was stated the day before by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei.

"As for the exact date of signing the memorandum of understanding, we should wait. Although it will not happen tomorrow, the possibility that the agreement will be signed in the coming days cannot be ruled out. However, due to the instability of the opposing side, we must exercise caution in any statements regarding this process," the Iranian agency Tasnim quoted the Foreign Ministry representative as saying. According to Baghaei, the document should put an end to hostilities, while the issue of Iran's nuclear program will not be discussed at this stage.

On the same day, the Fars agency, linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported that Iranian negotiators are unlikely to allow such "media and ceremonial maneuvers" by the U.S. as signing the memorandum on Trump's birthday. Meanwhile, a source close to the Iranian negotiating team told the agency on June 14 that the authorities have not yet made a decision on signing the document and continue to consider the "political, legal, and technical aspects of the proposals put forward."

Statements about a forthcoming agreement between the U.S. and Iran have been appearing since June 11

Donald Trump announced on June 11 the cancellation of planned strikes on Iranian targets that evening, explaining this by successful negotiations with the country's authorities. At that time, he suggested that an agreement with Tehran could be signed as soon as the upcoming weekend - that is, on June 13 or 14.

On the same day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghaei stated that the main provisions of the memorandum to end the war are almost agreed upon. "As for the wording, the text of the document is practically ready in its main points," the Iranian English-language state television channel Press TV quoted him as saying.

On the evening of June 12, Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, mediating in the negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, said that the final text of the peace agreement had been agreed upon. The next day, he stated that "final approval is likely expected within the next 24 hours." "Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace agreement immediately after this," it was noted in a post on Sharif's social media page on X.
