According to data from the Latvian mobile operator, children with a limited amount of mobile internet on their phones consume 230% more internet traffic during the summer months than in winter and spring, when the lowest data consumption among schoolchildren is observed.
"These data actually confirm a harsh reality: during the summer months, parents find it difficult to give their children enough attention and engage them in activities unrelated to the use of smart devices. The reasons for this are likely varied - children have more free time without structured daily activities, parents need to work, and not everyone has the financial means to send their children to camps or pay for participation in other organized events. This trend raises a broader range of questions about how children spend their free time and how their digital habits are formed. Therefore, it is important for parents to discuss the principles of safe internet use with their children, to inquire about how they spend their time online, and to agree on reasonable rules for the use of smart devices," notes the public relations manager of the operator, Oskars Firmans.
