Peter Magyar refused to pay Orban €100,000 after his resignation

The new Prime Minister of Hungary, Peter Magyar, stated that his predecessor in this position, Viktor Orban, will not receive the severance pay due to him of over €100,000.

The new Prime Minister of Hungary, Peter Magyar, stated that his predecessor in this position, Viktor Orban, will not receive the severance pay due to him of over €100,000.

According to him, the previous government passed a law under which Orban, who served as Prime Minister for the last 16 years, is entitled to a severance payment of 38,801,013 forints (€107,000).

At the same time, he claimed that Orban is responsible for the "plundering of the country" in recent years. After winning the parliamentary elections on April 12 and being elected Prime Minister, Magyar continues to accuse the previous government of corruption, which was the main theme of his election campaign.

In the editorial's opinion, the refusal to pay compensation to Viktor Orban has become for the new authorities not so much a financial decision as a political symbol. Thus, Peter Magyar's team demonstrates its readiness to distance itself from the previous system of governance and shows voters that promises to combat privileges and corruption will be implemented in practice.
