Swarm of Drones with AI: The UK Tested New Weapons of the Future

The UK conducted tests of autonomous drones with AI capable of independently locating and attacking targets. As reported by The Telegraph, this involves swarm technology that could change the approach to modern warfare.

British defense companies have tested a swarm of autonomous drones with artificial intelligence capable of independently detecting and attacking targets. According to The Telegraph, these tests demonstrate the UK's desire to keep pace with the rapid development of military technologies in the Russia-Ukraine war.

According to The Telegraph, the operational scenario of the swarm involves two reconnaissance drones flying ahead of the main group to search for targets. Once equipment is detected, the information is relayed to an operator who confirms the attack. Then, one of the armed drones strikes while the others continue reconnaissance.

Guy Hennings Gaar, head of the autonomous ground systems division at Applied Intuition, stated that this format of warfare is becoming the future of modern armies.

"This is the direction in which everything is moving," he told reporters.

The tests took place near the town of Abergavenny in Monmouthshire. Engineers observed the system's operation from screens in a command truck. The drones autonomously took off, scanned the valley where models of a tank and armored personnel carriers were placed, and after the operator's confirmation, executed a simulated strike.

The tests confirm that autonomous systems with elements of AI are increasingly entering the military sphere. In the coming years, such technologies could significantly alter the balance of power and the nature of combat operations.
