As a result of Iran's strike in Saudi Arabia, an American AWACS aircraft was damaged

As a result of Iran's strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, the U.S. Air Force's E-3 Sentry airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft was damaged, reports Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, and other Western media, according to LETA citing BBC and Bloomberg.

The aircraft, valued at around $300 million, was damaged in a strike that occurred in recent days, Bloomberg reports, citing a source familiar with the situation.

The Wall Street Journal, in its article about the damaged E-3 Sentry aircraft, refers to American and Saudi officials.

Photos published online, which were verified by journalists from the BBC Verify fact-checking unit, indicate that an American E-3 Sentry aircraft was damaged as a result of the strike on the base in Saudi Arabia.

As noted by the BBC, the images initially appeared on Facebook on a page that publishes news about the U.S. armed forces. They show the damaged E-3 Sentry aircraft.

The U.S. Central Command has not publicly commented on this incident, the BBC notes.

On Friday, an American official told Reuters that 12 American servicemen were injured as a result of Iran's strike on the airbase.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that at least two American refueling aircraft were damaged.

On Sunday, the Iranian agency Fars reported that the E-3 Sentry aircraft was hit by a Shahed drone.
