The Pentagon is preparing for ground operations in Iran that could last from several weeks to two months, writes The Washington Post, citing sources.

According to the publication, none of the options being considered by the Pentagon involve a full-scale invasion, as quoted by Meduza. The operations that the military is preparing for include only limited raids involving special forces and regular infantry in coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a possible capture of Kharg Island — a key center for Iranian oil exports.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt told The Washington Post that the Pentagon's task is to prepare for any scenarios and "provide the Commander-in-Chief with maximum flexibility." "This does not mean that the president has made a decision [on a ground operation]," she stated.

Information about a potential ground invasion of Iran has been actively discussed in major American media for several days. Officially, no such plans have been announced. U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on March 20 that he would "not send troops anywhere."

A potential ground operation in Iran does not receive approval from Americans. In a recent Associated Press poll, 62% of respondents opposed the use of ground troops in Iran, while only 12% supported such plans.
