On Monday evening, the center of Nigeria's Borno State — Maiduguri — was rocked by several explosions, resulting in at least 23 deaths and more than 100 injuries, police reported, according to LETA citing AFP.
Police believe that the explosions were carried out by suicide bombers.
Before these explosions, an attack was launched on army positions on the night from Sunday to Monday. Authorities blame jihadists for this attack.
Borno State has been the epicenter of the Islamist insurgency since 2009, where the groups Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) are vying for influence. More than 40,000 people have died as a result of this conflict.
Recently, both groups have intensified attacks in northeastern Nigeria.
