The President of Iran, Pezeshkian, promised in a national address to destroy the bases of enemies.
Iran will drive its enemies to despair, destroying their bases and capabilities in the region. This was stated by the President of the Islamic Republic, Masoud Pezeshkian, in a televised address to the nation. The recording of the speech was published by the Iranian agency ISNA on its Telegram channel.
The politician called for unity in the face of the enemy and announced that the Interim Council has begun its work and will govern Iran until a permanent leader is elected. The latter will replace Ali Khamenei, who had been in power since 1989 and was eliminated the day before in his residence as a result of an Israeli airstrike.
In addition to the president, the council includes the head of the judiciary and one of the members of the Guardian Council. The duties of the supreme leader will be performed by Alireza Arafi until a new one is elected.
Pezeshkian was not harmed during the attack. During the 2024 elections, he was considered an opponent of Khamenei's appointee, and his victory was a surprise for the authorities. At that time, the politician promised to improve relations with the West and ease the enforcement of the hijab law.
