AP: The CIA has been monitoring the movements of Iran's senior leadership for several months.

In recent months, the CIA has been tracking the movements of senior Iranian leaders, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and then shared the data with Israel on the eve of the operation against the Islamic Republic. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) citing a source familiar with the operation's progress.

According to him, Tel Aviv adjusted the bombing schedule based on the new information and was able to eliminate several high-ranking officials at once. Besides Khamenei, these include the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Ali Shamkhani, Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, and Intelligence Chief Gholamreza Rezayan. In total, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) report about 40 individuals assessed as the enemy's top military leadership.

The current leadership of the country has declared a 40-day mourning period and a non-working week in connection with Khamenei's death. Ayatollah Alireza Arafi has been temporarily appointed in his place.

The leadership of the country has been entrusted to a Temporary Council, which includes the head of the judiciary, one of the members of the Guardian Council, and President Masoud Pezeshkian, who was not harmed during the strike. According to U.S. President Donald Trump, Tehran has already requested negotiations, but he did not specify when they might take place.

Pezeshkian himself was seen as the main opponent of the candidacy of Saeed Jalili, supported by Khamenei, during the 2024 elections, and a proponent of establishing relations with the West. In his speech on Sunday, March 1, he promised that Iran would drive its enemies to despair, destroying their bases and capabilities in the region.
