The strategically important Strait of Hormuz, located in southern Iran between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, will be closed, reports the Tasnim news agency affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to LETA citing the BBC.
Vessels are receiving notifications from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that no ships should pass through the strait, sources told Tasnim.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations has also been informed that vessels are receiving warnings about the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important maritime trade routes and a key hub for oil transit.
About one-fifth of the world's oil and gas passes through the strait.
