Israel launched a preventive strike on Iran, the Israeli Ministry of Defense reported on Saturday, LETA writes, citing AFP.
"The State of Israel has begun a preventive strike on Iran. Defense Minister Israel Katz declared a special and immediate state of emergency across the country," the ministry's statement said.
Sirens sounded in Jerusalem, and residents across the country received warnings on their phones about an "extremely serious" threat.
On Saturday morning, AFP journalists in Tehran heard two loud explosions, and two thick columns of smoke were visible over the center and eastern part of the Iranian capital.
"The nature of the explosions indicates a missile attack," reported the Iranian news agency Fars, without providing further details immediately.
