Significant steps forward have been made in negotiations to end the Russian-Ukrainian war regarding security guarantees for Ukraine; however, the main issue - territorial - is still far from resolution, said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in an interview with Sky TG24, according to LETA citing UKRAINSKA PRAVDA.
"I see not so much a turning point approaching, but rather the establishment of contact on the issue of a ceasefire, which is still very far away in Ukraine," said the Prime Minister.
Meloni emphasized that one of the key issues remains unresolved.
"There is a peace plan in which many issues are resolved on paper, except that we are very far from solving the main issue, namely the issue of territories that Russia continues to claim, which, in my opinion, is completely unjustified," Meloni explained.
Significant progress has been made in peace negotiations regarding security guarantees for Ukraine, the Prime Minister noted.
"I see important steps forward in the documents we are currently developing. Very good work has been done on security guarantees for Kyiv, which, by the way, are based on Italy's proposal - to build them based on Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty," the Prime Minister of Italy summarized.
