A shooting occurred at an ice rink in the city of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, in the northeast U.S. on Monday, resulting in at least two deaths and three injuries, authorities reported, according to LETA citing AFP.
The shooting suspect also died.
"We have three fatalities — the suspect and two victims; and three others are in the hospital," said local police chief Tina Gonsalves.
She added that, according to the initial investigation, the shooting was targeted and "may be related to a family dispute."
Details about the victims' identities have not been disclosed, but the injured are in "critical condition," Gonsalves said.
In a video posted on social media, frightened teenagers can be seen running from the scene amid the sounds of gunfire. The shooting began during a high school hockey game.
Mass shootings are a common occurrence in the U.S., where liberal gun control laws mean relatively easy access to firearms.
Last year, there were over 400 mass shootings in the U.S. These incidents involve four or more people being injured or killed, excluding the shooter.
As a result of gun violence, excluding suicides, at least 14,703 people died in the U.S. last year.
