Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday evening that preparations are underway for a new round of trilateral negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S., which will take place this week in Abu Dhabi. He expressed hope for active participation from the American side, LETA reported, citing the BBC.
Zelensky stated that he will hold a meeting on Monday to coordinate the framework for negotiations and that the Ukrainian delegation will set off the same evening.
According to the Ukrainian side, the negotiations will take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
"We expect that the American side will be equally active, especially on issues of de-escalation — reducing strikes. Much depends on what the Americans can achieve so that people trust both the process and its results," Zelensky said.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump reported that he had called Russian President Vladimir Putin and asked him to temporarily refrain from strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure during the severe cold.
Later, the Kremlin confirmed that the "energy truce" would be in effect until February 1, and its goal is to build trust between the parties during the negotiations in Abu Dhabi.
As reported, direct negotiations between representatives of Ukraine and Russia were scheduled for Sunday in Abu Dhabi, but they were postponed.
