Through an Intermediary: Kyiv and the Russian Federation Will Sign Separate Agreements with the USA

The outcome of the negotiations to end the war should be the signing of two separate agreements - between the USA and Ukraine and between the USA and Russia, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga in an interview with 'European Truth.'

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that at this stage, the signing of a direct agreement between Ukraine and Russia to end the aggressive Russian war is not being discussed. "If we talk strictly about this 20-point framework (the agreement to end the war in Ukraine - Ed.), it is currently a bilateral document that will be signed by the USA and Ukraine. And with Russia - the USA should sign. At the moment, this is the structure being discussed, but negotiations are still ongoing, it is a process," the head of Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said in an interview with the publication 'European Truth' on Tuesday, January 27.

European partners of Kyiv, whose signatures are not expected on the agreements, "are present in the peace process and in the agreements on security guarantees," Sibiga clarified, adding that "for the first time, we are talking specifically about the term 'security guarantees,' not 'assurances' or something similar." At the same time, American peacekeepers will not be on Ukrainian territory under any outcome of the negotiations, he confirmed.

According to the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, two "sensitive issues" remain unresolved in the negotiations - the territorial issue and the status of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. To resolve them, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is ready to meet personally with Kremlin head Vladimir Putin, Sibiga emphasized.

FT: The USA Links Its Guarantees to Kyiv's Withdrawal from Donbas

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated to Ukraine that security guarantees from Washington depend on whether Kyiv agrees to a peace agreement that is likely to include the transfer of Donbas to Russia. This was reported on January 27 by the Financial Times (FT), citing eight sources. Two of them specified that Washington also promised Kyiv additional supplies of weapons for support in peacetime if Ukraine meets this condition.

Meanwhile, White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly denied the claims made in the article, accusing FT of allowing malicious and anonymous dissemination of falsehoods to disrupt the peace process, which is in excellent shape after the historic trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi.

The Zelensky administration did not comment on the situation. A senior official in Kyiv noted that the USA "is using guarantees to push Ukraine" towards concessions that they believe could "force Russia to come to the negotiating table." Meanwhile, several Ukrainian officials and military analysts expressed the opinion that if the Russian Federation takes Donbas, it would give its forces a foothold for an offensive deeper into Ukraine.

Kyiv: Trump Seeks to Conclude a Peace Treaty by May 15

The Trump administration expects that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine will be concluded by May 15 of this year, said Oleksiy Honcharenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the 'European Solidarity' party, on January 27 during an online program 'Ranok.LIVE,' citing his sources. According to him, May is considered an informal deadline in the USA for concluding a deal between Kyiv and Moscow, after which the American side may withdraw from the negotiation process.

Last weekend, the first trilateral negotiations between representatives of the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and the USA regarding the end of the Russian invasion of Ukraine took place in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi. The President of Ukraine later positively assessed the negotiations and reported that the delegations would meet again on February 1.
