The next meeting of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States may take place next week, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after the negotiations of representatives from the three countries in the UAE. According to him, the delegations managed to discuss a lot.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky positively assessed the two-day negotiations in Abu Dhabi between the Ukrainian, Russian, and American delegations on a peaceful settlement. "We managed to discuss a lot, and it is important that the talks were constructive," he wrote on social media on Saturday, January 24, following a report from representatives of Kyiv.
According to Zelensky, the discussions focused on possible parameters for ending the war and the necessary security guarantees for Ukraine. Following the negotiations, the delegations intend to coordinate further steps with the leadership of their countries and have identified issues for the next meeting. "If we are ready to move forward - and Ukraine is ready - the next meetings will take place, potentially next week," Zelensky added.
"Positive and constructive atmosphere"
The results of the trilateral negotiations will be announced by "authorized persons in the capitals," TASS reported, citing a source. There was direct interaction between the parties at the meeting, which took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere, stated a representative of the UAE government.
Meanwhile, the White House also expressed satisfaction with the course of the negotiations, NBC reported, citing sources in the American administration. It is reported that the next round may take place in Abu Dhabi next week. Axios noted that one of the key topics of the negotiations was the issue of control over territories in eastern Ukraine.
Two-day negotiations between Ukraine, the Russian Federation, and the United States
The second round of negotiations between representatives of the Russian Federation and Ukraine, mediated by the United States, regarding the end of the Russian invasion of Ukraine took place in Abu Dhabi on January 24. The nearly three-hour discussions were held behind closed doors. The first meeting took place the day before.
The Ukrainian delegation was headed by NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov. Among others, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, also participated in the negotiations. Russia was represented by officials from the Ministry of Defense, led by the head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff, Igor Kostyukov. The American delegation included U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy Stephen Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Representatives of the three countries held direct consultations on the U.S. peace plan for the first time since the beginning of the war. Shortly before the negotiations began, Moscow confirmed its maximum demand for the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from all of Donbas, including territories previously not controlled by Russia. Ukraine categorically refuses to do this. After the first day of negotiations, the Russian Federation launched another large-scale attack on Ukraine. Kyiv stated that Russian missiles were aimed, among other things, against the peace process.
