NATO Secretary General Explained How the Alliance Will Respond to the Russian 'Orchard' Attack

The intensification of Russian attacks, including the use of the 'Orchard' missile, demonstrates the urgent need to provide Ukraine with air defense systems and interceptor missiles.

This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during a speech at the European Parliament at the Renew group forum on January 13.

The NATO Secretary General urged allies to urgently provide Ukraine with interceptor missiles to protect Ukrainians from intense Russian attacks.

"We are responding (to Russian attacks) right now, as it is already horrific. These Russian missiles are weapons of death and destruction. We saw this recently when they were used against the Lviv region. I find this terrible," Rutte emphasized. He reminded that "last night we again saw hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles hitting Ukraine."

"In particular, they are currently targeting civilian infrastructure, innocent civilians. This has nothing to do with combat operations at the front. This is done solely to sow panic and death among the civilian population of Ukraine," said the NATO Secretary General.

He stressed that this is why "there is such a resolute motivation to do everything possible" to provide Ukraine with "the necessary interceptor missiles to shoot down these missiles wherever possible."

"I urge the parliamentarians present here: work with your governments to thoroughly check your own stockpiles. Find the necessary interceptor missiles for the Patriot, NASAMS, and SAMP/T systems, as Ukrainians need them urgently," Mark Rutte appealed.
