Independent Senator Bernie Sanders criticized the actions of the United States in Venezuela and the overthrow of President Nicolás Maduro, reports CNN.
He described Washington's actions as 'old-fashioned imperialism.' 'You are talking about old-fashioned imperialism. And all of this, throughout the history of the world — England, Spain, Portugal, long ago — powerful nations invaded poor, underdeveloped regions and simply exploited their resources,' he emphasized.
According to the senator, Trump's policy contradicts a centuries-old movement in Latin America aimed at countering Washington's interference in the internal affairs of countries.
On the night of Saturday, January 3, the United States launched several strikes on facilities in Venezuela. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were kidnapped by American special forces and taken out of the country.
