In Lithuania, bridges located near the border with Russia and Belarus are being equipped with special engineering structures for securing explosives, LRT was informed by the country's armed forces.
Residents of Lithuania noted that construction work on the bridges near the Belarusian border began almost simultaneously, as reported by "Meduza". The military explained that the work is part of measures to strengthen the country's defense, agreed upon in July 2024.
"Bridges and roads are selected based on the location of natural obstacles and their strategic importance for Lithuania's defense system," the military stated.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces noted that several dozen points for storing anti-tank and other barriers have already been created along the border. Additionally, work is underway to plant trees to protect key roads and to deepen irrigation channels, which will serve as trenches and additional anti-tank barriers.
The Baltic States — Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia — are building or have already built barriers at the border with Russia. Finland is also erecting its own fence. For example, Latvia has already constructed a 145-kilometer fence at the border with Belarus and a 280-kilometer fence at the border with Russia.
