Germany's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius sharply condemned the misconduct revealed in one of the elite paratroop regiments of the Bundeswehr on Tuesday. This was reported by DPA.
Earlier, the German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported that an investigation into the 26th Parachute Regiment in the city of Zweibrücken has been ongoing for several months and concerns right-wing extremism, sexual abuse, violent 'rituals,' and drug use.
According to the newspaper, dozens of servicemen from the regiment are accused of sexual violence and harassment against women, with at least 30 individuals involved in political extremism and anti-Semitism related to more than 200 incidents.
The publication also reported on Nazi salutes and the existence of a so-called Nazi party within the unit.
As noted by the newspaper, women were forced to confront exhibitionism, listen to pornographic jokes, and fantasies about rape.
"Reports of right-wing extremism, sexual abuse, and drug use in Zweibrücken are shocking," said Pistorius to the agency.
According to him, such actions sharply contradict the fundamental values of the Bundeswehr, the German Armed Forces.
The military department reported that after investigations in the parachute regiment stationed in Zweibrücken, several servicemen were dismissed, and further measures were announced. The prosecutor's office is investigating cases involving 19 soldiers.
