NBC: a rift has emerged between Rubio and Witkoff over their roles in the Ukraine process.
A rift has emerged between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Stephen Witkoff over their roles in the process of resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported by NBC, citing sources.
According to the channel's sources, Rubio was supposed to attend negotiations with Ukrainian officials in Switzerland in November, but Witkoff left early without informing the State Department of his plans, which could have been an attempt to outpace the Secretary of State and secure a leading role in the peace process. Three sources reported that Rubio did arrive in Geneva, preventing the meeting with Ukrainian representatives from taking place without his participation.
"This previously unreported episode is a new example of the long-standing rift between two high-ranking figures in the Trump administration who have sharply differing views on how to end the war in Ukraine," the publication claims.
