European countries must be prepared for a Russian attack as early as 2027, and in the plans of Russian President Vladimir Putin is the occupation of the Baltic States, stated the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, LETA reports citing UNIAN.
"According to the basic plan, Russia was supposed to be ready to start actions in 2030. Now the plans have been adjusted, and the deadlines have been revised downward — to 2027," Budanov said in an interview with the publication 'Lb.ua'.
Budanov added that the main focus of Russian aggression will be the Baltic States. He explained that the reasons lie in the worldview of the 'Russian world', as the development of an empire requires constant expansion of influence and territory, and this, in Russia's opinion, is the only 'safe' direction.
"To the north — there is only the Arctic Ocean and then around — America. This is not an option because it will be painful. To the east — the Pacific Ocean and again America. The same answer. To the south — China, this will be a disaster — a land border, the conditions will be the same as in our war with Russia, only for them. The only thing left is the West, which in their understanding, forgive the phraseology, is 'outdated', 'sick', 'weak', and 'indecisive'," Budanov stated.
According to him, Russia plans to occupy the Baltic States, while Poland is seen only as a target for strikes — a military campaign without territorial capture.
