Orban: The EU will declare war on Russia if it confiscates frozen assets.
If the European Union (EU) decides to seize Russian frozen assets for subsequent transfer to Ukraine, Brussels will thus declare war on Moscow. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on his social media account on X.
"Confiscating Russian assets to finance Ukraine? That is a declaration of war. Taking money from one side and giving it to another means dragging the EU into the conflict. This must not be allowed. Fortunately, I am not the only one who thinks so," emphasized the head of the Hungarian government.
Earlier, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever stated that seizing Russia's assets could violate international law, something that was not done even during World War II. He emphasized that the European Commission has not yet provided him with trustworthy guarantees.
The Financial Times (FT) also reported that the European Union fears that Moscow may confiscate Western assets in response to the use of Russian assets as part of the plan to provide credit to Ukraine.
