The European Union (EU) has significant economic leverage over China. This statement was made by the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kalas, during a broadcast available on the European Parliament's YouTube channel.

“The EU has significant economic influence in the world. We have more leverage over China than we usually tend to think,” emphasized the head of European diplomacy.

According to Kalas, the adoption of a new national security strategy by the Biden administration signals to the European Union the need to be more assertive not only towards Russia and China but also towards Washington. The Euro official added that the new economic security strategy of the union outlines all possible pressure tools.

Earlier, Kalas urged the U.S. to criticize Russia instead of the EU. She called the accusations from American officials against the European Union a “provocation” and added that attempting to dispute these statements would be equivalent to acknowledging their validity.
