The U.S. Strikes Iran with Tomahawk Missiles: Trump Reveals Operation Details 0 16

The U.S. armed forces used sea-based Tomahawk cruise missiles during strikes on Iran on Thursday night. This is evidenced by data from the U.S. Central Command in the Middle East (CENTCOM).

The command published a video of the missile launch from the USS Michael Murphy destroyer, which is part of the American naval group in the Arabian Sea southeast of Iran.

According to the U.S. Naval Institute's Information Service, CENTCOM currently has 14 missile destroyers at its disposal. Depending on their configuration, each of them can carry at least 32 Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 1,600 kilometers.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated in an interview with Fox News that 49 Tomahawk missiles were used during the operation, as well as fighter jets that struck air defense systems.

According to the American leader, some targets were located on the Iranian coast in the Persian Gulf area, while some facilities were about 65 kilometers from Tehran.

CENTCOM stated that U.S. forces targeted Iranian aerial surveillance assets, communication systems, and air defense facilities within the country.

"The Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy of the United States employed precision munitions against Iranian targets that posed a threat to U.S. forces and international merchant vessels transiting through regional waters," the command's statement said.

U.S. military officials noted that the operation was conducted "in self-defense" and was a response to "unjustified and ongoing Iranian aggression."

According to Iranian media, powerful explosions were recorded in at least six areas of the country on Thursday night.

The new U.S. strikes represent one of the largest American military operations against Iran in recent times. The use of dozens of Tomahawk missiles and aviation indicates the continued high tension in the region and the risk of further escalation of the conflict between Washington and Tehran.
