A diplomatic conflict is unfolding between Ukraine and Poland. This time on the topic of which president should be the first to make a foreign visit.
Recently, the head of the Polish president's office and the head of the Bureau of International Policy at the president's office stated that if Zelensky "needs to talk" to Nawrocki, then he "should come to Warsaw."
The Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, Bodnar, responded that Kyiv had offered Warsaw several dates for Nawrocki's visit to Ukraine, noting that according to diplomatic norms, a newly elected president makes their first visit to a neighboring country.
Nawrocki himself demanded "symmetry in relations between Poland and Ukraine" and expressed the expectation that Zelensky "will visit me in Warsaw, and we will have the opportunity to discuss this, as there are matters that Poland needs to resolve with Ukraine."
"I demand symmetry in relations with Ukraine and expect Zelensky to express gratitude to Polish soldiers and the Polish people for the support he receives from our people," wrote the Polish president.
After this, Zelensky traveled to Paris via Poland but did not meet with Nawrocki.
The situation was commented on by the Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski, who, by the way, has a strained relationship with Nawrocki.
"The persistent demands for apologies and honors in a situation where they are fighting for their lives disgust me, but on the other hand, the crown would not fall from Zelensky's head if, passing through Poland, he requested a visit to the Presidential Palace," Sikorski said on RMF FM.
The host stated that according to diplomatic rules, the president with less seniority visits the one who has been in office longer.
"Yes, of course, but war has its laws and circumstances," Sikorski replied.
Let us remind you that Nawrocki built his election campaign, among other things, on criticism of Ukraine and OUN-UPA.
