US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Whitcoff will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, media reports citing American diplomats say, according to LETA referencing BBC.
The Wall Street Journal and AFP report that Whitcoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will travel to Moscow on Monday.
The meeting between Whitcoff and Putin is scheduled for Tuesday.
Meanwhile, this week, the arrival of Trump’s special envoy Dan Driscoll is expected in Kyiv.
Earlier, it was reported that negotiations between the US and Ukrainian delegations regarding the possibilities of ending the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine took place in Florida on Sunday.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the negotiations as productive but acknowledged that much work remains to be done.
On Sunday, Trump stated that he is optimistic about the possibility of ending the war following the negotiations between the US and Ukrainian delegations.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, who made a statement to journalists alongside Rubio after the negotiations, also reported that the talks were "productive and successful," but did not specify what progress had been made, if any.
Umerov emphasized Ukraine's gratitude for the support from the US during nearly four years of war.
As previously reported, the proposed 28-point plan by the US in its initial version was quite favorable to Russia. It required Ukraine to cede occupied territories to Russia, as well as those that Russia had not even captured. Kyiv was also required to commit to never joining NATO and to reduce its army.
During the negotiations involving representatives from the US, Ukraine, and Europe that took place in Geneva last week, the American plan was modified to take into account Ukraine's position. However, Bloomberg indicates that the negotiations are still stalled by the same obstacles as before.
