The German government continues to trust Kyiv amid the scandal surrounding alleged corruption in the Ukrainian government. This was stated on Wednesday, November 12, by the official representative of the German government, Stefan Kornelius, in response to a question about whether the emerging scandal would lead to increased oversight by Germany regarding how Ukraine uses the aid it receives.
"The federal government will now closely monitor the developments. I have already said that we are in very close trustful contact with the president (Volodymyr Zelensky - Ed.) and continue to stand by, including in such situations. Now we will observe the developments in this specific case. And if necessary, we may have to take measures in this matter," Kornelius said.
Kornelius: Germany expects Kyiv to resolve the issue itself
"At this point, we have trust in the Ukrainian government that it will take care of resolving this issue itself, as well as in the anti-corruption agencies - that they will uncover this case and bring it to a logical conclusion," he added. Kornelius also reported that the upcoming German-Ukrainian intergovernmental consultations, which are to take place later this year, do not include the topic of corruption on the agenda, and its discussion is not planned.
Earlier, it became known that on November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) conducted a search in Kyiv at the home of a long-time associate of Zelensky, businessman and co-owner of the "Quarter 95" studio, Timur Mindich, who left Ukraine just hours before the search.
Searches also took place at "Energoatom" and former Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko, who was suspended from his duties as Minister of Justice of the country. The decision was made at an emergency government meeting in Kyiv on the morning of November 12, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko stated. "The duties of the minister have been assigned to the Deputy Minister of Justice for European Integration Lyudmyla Suhak," Svyrydenko wrote on her Telegram channel.
NABU confirmed the conduct of a joint "large-scale operation to expose corruption in the energy sector" with the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) of Ukraine.
