Обещаниям нового градоначальника верят не все.

Mamdani stated that he would stand up to U.S. President Donald Trump and his followers.

Mamdani himself told his supporters that a "political dynasty has been overthrown" in the election. He also promised the residents of New York a new city.

"We breathe the air of a reborn city," he said.

According to Mamdani, everyone who votes chooses hope. "Hope against tyranny, hope against big money and small ideas, hope against despair," he added.

MSNBC has already called Mamdani the next mayor of New York, noting that he defeated independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

Mamdani also stated that he would stand up to U.S. President Donald Trump and his followers.

"If anyone can show the people loyal to Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that birthed him. If there is a way to terrify a despot, it is to destroy the conditions that allowed him to accumulate power. In this way, we will stop not only Trump, but also the next ones," he said while addressing supporters.

Trump, in turn, posted on Truth Social with the words "...AND HERE WE GO!".

The American leader, who supported Cuomo's candidacy, had previously threatened to suspend federal funding for New York if Mamdani won.

Mamdani is a native of Uganda, who describes himself as a socialist. He proposes to introduce a tax for the wealthiest residents of New York, make bus rides fast and free, freeze rental prices, and provide free preschool education for all children under five years old. He will be sworn in in January 2026 and will become the first Muslim mayor in the city's history.

In the summer of 2025, Mamdani won the Democratic Party primary in June, receiving a record number of votes. Previously interested in rap, he seized every opportunity to appear on various podcasts and TV shows, attracting young and moderate voters. Additionally, many South Asian and Muslim residents of New York voted for the politician due to his background.
