According to the agency, the U.S. Department of Defense may select a contractor for the design and construction of carrier-based fighters by the end of this week. Journalists clarified that the Pentagon is considering aerospace corporations Boeing and Northrop Grumman.
The publication noted that the combat aircraft will be named F/A XX and will replace the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, which has been in service since the 1990s.
