Many tourists rely on the number of stars when choosing a hotel, but experts assure that this indicator does not always reflect the quality of the stay.

Travel expert Chelsea Dickinson explained what to really pay attention to when booking a hotel.

The choice of hotel greatly affects the impression of the vacation. An inconvenient location, outdated rooms, or poor service can ruin even the most anticipated trip. Many believe that a comfortable stay is only possible in expensive four- or five-star hotels.

However, tourism expert Chelsea Dickinson considers this approach to be misguided. According to her, when choosing accommodation, it is much more important to study guest reviews and the location of the hotel than to focus on the number of stars.

"Star ratings often reflect the availability of additional services and infrastructure, rather than the parameters that are truly important to most travelers: cleanliness, comfort, quality of service, and the condition of the rooms," the specialist explains.

According to Dickinson, a three-star hotel can be cozier and more comfortable than a luxurious five-star hotel. For example, it may not have a large swimming pool or a 24-hour front desk, but guests will find clean rooms, modern renovations, and a good breakfast waiting for them.

The expert recommends paying attention to several key factors before booking:

  • the location of the hotel;
  • the infrastructure around;
  • current photos of the rooms and the property;
  • the availability of truly necessary services;
  • reviews from real guests.

It is especially important to consider the purpose of the trip. If a traveler plans to spend most of their time in the city sightseeing, a remote five-star hotel may be less convenient than a modest hotel in the center.

For families with children, on the other hand, the presence of a swimming pool, animation, and other entertainment on the hotel grounds is more important than its proximity to tourist attractions.

Therefore, experts advise first determining one’s priorities and then evaluating the category of the hotel. This approach helps not only to choose a more suitable accommodation option but also to save significantly.

As Chelsea Dickinson notes, stars on the facade do not always guarantee an ideal vacation. It is much more important to carefully study reviews, photos, and the specifics of a particular hotel. Often, this approach allows finding comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price and avoiding unnecessary expenses during the vacation.

The number of stars remains just one of the indicators when choosing a hotel and does not always reflect the actual quality of the stay. It is much more important to consider the location, guest reviews, and one’s own needs — this approach helps find a comfortable hotel and avoid unjustified expenses.
