Construction of a pedestrian and bicycle tunnel under the Tallinn Highway has begun in Lilaste. The new facility is expected to make crossing one of the busiest roads in the country safer.

The State Joint Stock Company Latvijas valsts ceļi (LVC) has started the construction of a pedestrian and bicycle tunnel in Lilaste, Adazi municipality.

During the construction, traffic will be organized along a temporary detour road. Drivers are asked to pay close attention to road signs and changes in traffic organization.

The new tunnel will be located near the public transport stop "Medzabaki" and will connect the sidewalks on both sides of the Tallinn Highway. For local residents, cyclists, and public transport passengers, this means a safer way to cross the busy road without having to step onto the roadway.

The project includes not only the construction of the tunnel itself but also the installation of additional elements for traffic organization. The facility will also be adapted for people with mobility impairments.

The safety of pedestrians and cyclists on state roads remains one of the priority tasks of road infrastructure. Underground crossings help eliminate the intersection of traffic flows and reduce the risk of serious accidents.

The cost of the construction works is 700,370 euros, including VAT. The works are being carried out by the consortium "SMA-Baltijas būve", construction supervision is provided by the company "BPU&IngWay", and the project was developed by the joint-stock company "Ceļuprojekts".

According to LVC, construction work is currently underway at 46 sites in the state road network. The majority of the projects are located on local roads, where work is ongoing at 16 sites. Additionally, the repair of six bridges is continuing.

After the project is completed, crossing the Tallinn Highway in the Lilaste area will become significantly more convenient and safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
