Cold spring and sudden frosts often negatively affect winter garlic, weakening it. However, this situation can be promptly corrected with the right fertilizers.

To achieve quick results, it is recommended to use foliar feeding with urea. Once the weather stabilizes and warms up, one should switch to root feeding with ammonium nitrate and magnesium sulfate.

Foliar Feeding in Cold Weather

In cold soil conditions, foliar feeding of garlic shows the greatest effectiveness. It is carried out when the plant has already formed at least four leaves.

This method allows nutrients to quickly penetrate directly through the leaves, bypassing the root system, which operates significantly slower in cold weather.

What to Feed Garlic During Spring Cold Spells?

For treating plants in cold weather, a solution of urea, also known as carbamide, is used. To prepare it, dissolve 10–15 grams of the substance in 10 liters of water.

Urea is an excellent source of nitrogen, which helps garlic quickly restore its rich green color and leaf turgor in just a few days. To achieve the best results, it is important to follow certain rules.

Plants should be sprayed in the morning or evening, evenly covering all the leaves. Do not carry out the procedure just before rain, and if necessary, repeat it after 7–10 days.

Garlic Fertilization After Warming

When the air temperature stabilizes and the soil warms up sufficiently, root feeding becomes more effective. It provides a longer-lasting effect and actively stimulates plant development.

Before applying fertilizers, the beds should be watered abundantly. This will prevent possible root damage and significantly improve nutrient absorption.

For root feeding, a special solution is prepared: 20 grams of ammonium nitrate, 20 grams of magnesium sulfate, and 10 liters of water. After treatment, when the soil dries a little, it is recommended to carefully loosen the soil to ensure good air access to the root system.
