A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and dairy products is linked to better sleep quality

Diet may be linked to how a person sleeps. This conclusion was reached by Chinese scientists. Frontiers in Nutrition reports on this.

The study involved nearly 1,500 men and women. Participants filled out a questionnaire about their consumption of 12 main food groups. Based on this data, specialists identified typical dietary patterns. Sleep quality was assessed using a test that considers sleep duration, difficulties falling asleep, frequency of nighttime awakenings, and feelings of refreshment after rest.

The results showed that only one dietary pattern was associated with more favorable sleep. People who more frequently included fresh fruits, vegetables, and dairy products in their diet reported complaints of poor sleep quality less often. As the proportion of these foods increased, the likelihood of sleep problems statistically decreased.

The authors of the study emphasize that the research does not allow for conclusions about direct causality. However, the results suggest that a diet with a higher amount of plant-based and dairy products may be associated with a lower risk of sleep disturbances.
