Tesla is being sued in China over autopilot: owners demand more than half a million dollars in compensation

A legal dispute has begun in China against Tesla. Electric vehicle owners accuse the company of misleading advertising regarding the Full Self-Driving system and demand compensation totaling over $583,000.

In China, Tesla has found itself at the center of a legal dispute over its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system. According to Bloomberg, a court in Beijing held the first hearing on a lawsuit filed by ten owners of the American manufacturer's electric vehicles.

The plaintiffs are demanding compensation from Tesla totaling more than $583,000. They believe the company misled buyers by advertising the system as a technology capable of providing full autonomous control of the vehicle.

The lawsuit claims that the Full Self-Driving features have not received the necessary approval from Chinese regulators and are unable to perform all the promised capabilities. Additionally, the car owners accuse Tesla of concealing limitations and hardware deficiencies, which they believe influenced their decision to purchase the vehicles.

During the hearing, Tesla representatives rejected the allegations. The company stated that some features of the system are already fully operational, others are only partially implemented, and some capabilities are still under development.

Tesla has not yet provided any additional official comments regarding the legal proceedings.

Experts note that the outcome of this case could set an important precedent for the Chinese market. Issues related to autonomous vehicle technology are under special scrutiny by government regulators in the country, so the court's decision could impact not only Tesla but also other manufacturers developing similar systems.

The lawsuit against Tesla could become one of the most notable legal disputes in the field of autonomous transportation in China. Its results could influence both the rules for promoting such technologies and the requirements for their certification and use in the world's largest automotive market.
