Computers with Windows 11 24H2 began to be forcefully updated to the new version of the OS.
Microsoft has launched the process of forcefully updating Windows 11. This was noted by Bleeping Computer.
As journalists reported, some users noticed that their computers running Windows 11 24H2 were updated to version 25H2. Later, Microsoft acknowledged that it initiated the automatic update process, as support for version 24H2 will soon expire — on October 13, 2026.
Windows 11 25H2 began to be distributed back in September 2025. The company explained that all devices running the Windows 11 Home and Pro operating systems will be updated. Computers with corporate licenses will be excluded — according to Microsoft’s plan, the update will be initiated by IT department specialists of organizations.
Microsoft explained the reasons for launching the forceful update process. "Devices running old versions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, as well as monthly security updates and preview updates," the company emphasized.
