The U.S. Navy will trust ship inspections to robots from Gecko Robotics.

The U.S. Navy will entrust the inspection of ships and aircraft to robots from Gecko Robotics. This was reported by the Defense One portal.

The deal amount between the Navy and Gecko Robotics is $71 million. According to the company, robots equipped with artificial intelligence systems detect malfunctions 50 times faster and more accurately than humans and can perform inspections even before the ship arrives at port.

According to Jake Lusardi, co-founder and CEO of Gecko Robotics, the solution offered to the fleet combines visual inspection with predictive maintenance to "predict what might fail and how quickly to fix it to reduce downtime."

Defense One emphasizes that the deal is part of the Navy's efforts to achieve 80 percent readiness next year and to address the issue of ship shortages.
