Telegram is practically not working in Russia — neither the mobile app nor the web version. Experts believe that the blockage has already begun.
The messenger Telegram has been practically non-functional in the last few days, users report, as cited by "Meduza".
On the websites Downdetector and "сбой.рф", the number of complaints began to rise since the weekend. Users write that the messenger does not work "in any form": the app does not open, it is impossible to send messages, and photos and videos do not load. Complaints are coming from various regions, mostly from Moscow, St. Petersburg, and the Moscow region.
According to the website "сбой.рф", which is reported by "Коммерсант FM", on Saturday, March 14, there were nearly six thousand complaints about the messenger's improper functioning, and on Sunday — twelve thousand complaints.
Experts interviewed by the newspaper believe that the blockage of the messenger has already begun. According to the author of the publication "Код Дурова" Vladislav Voytenko, in the last day the messenger has been virtually non-functional when connected through home providers, and "one can forget about using Telegram via mobile internet". He notes that if only "white list" sites are active in a certain city, then "most VPN services will not help access Telegram".
The president of the Association of Communication Operators MAKATEL, Alexey Amelkin, states that there has been "throttling" for a long time, but recently there have been complaints that the desktop version of the messenger has stopped working.
